As it was in its youth, this remains a robust and burly '90 with an expressive nose that has gone completely secondary (but not tertiary). There is still plenty of unresolved tannins and power supporting the broad-scaled flavors that deliver fine depth and very good if not truly outstanding length. Like most of the Faiveley wines of this period, this is no model of elegance but fans of power and punch will certainly not be disappointed. For my taste this has arrived at its apogee though there is sufficient structure remaining that the mouth feel of the wine will certainly change if you continue to cellar it.

Domaine Faiveley is located in France, at the heart of Viticultural Burgundy, between Dijon and Beaune in Nuits-Saint-Georges.
This illustrious company has been based in Nuits St Georges since the days of Pierre Faiveley who founded the business in 1825. His son Joseph gave his name to the family business, to be followed by the first François, Georges who was instrumental in founding the Chevaliers du Tastevin, Guy who developed the business in the Côte Chalonnaise, François who has recently retired and now his son Erwan, born in 1979.
Historically based in the Côte de Nuits capital, the Faiveley family has progressively extended its domaine and today owns vineyards in the finest climats in Burgundy - Gevrey-Chambertin, Pommard, Volnay, Puligny-Montrachet, Mercurey and others. The vineyards are very fragmented. The average surface area per appellation is around just 1 hectare. The number of bottles produced for each wine is therefore very limited.
