Georges Roumier Bonnes Mares Grand Cru 1990 750ml

France, Burgundy, Cote De Nuits
Pinot Noir

- +, Jun 01, 2016
Prior to this most recent bottle I had had pretty consistent notes with the the '90 Roumier Bonnes Mares that was flat on the nose and edgy on the finish and overall, it was not especially good. From bottles tasted in 2012 and before: Strong secondary and very dense earth-suffused fruit aromas that are notably ripe but not roasted combine with big, concentrated, complex, deep and still moderately tannic flavors that offer seriously impressive length are supported by a bit more acidity than the typical '90. This is a big, robust and powerful wine with good depth, richness and ample structure that suggests that the finish will probably always have some tannic edginess. Indeed I have my doubts that it will ever completely harmonize but there is no doubt that this is a muscular and imposing if not perfectly well-balanced effort.
