Petit Mouton 2007 750ml

Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Le Petit Mouton has a rather austere bouquet with earthy, leathery black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with quite chewy tannin, plenty of red berry fruit, orange rind and clove, building towards quite a weighty finish that perhaps just lacks the class of more recent vintages. At ten years on, this Deuxième Vin is proving to be longer-lasting than many expected, and even though it is surpassed by more recent, finely-tuned vintages, it remains a satisfying Pauillac. Le Petit Mouton Rothschild is the second wine produced by the prestigious Chateau Mouton Rothschild. This traditional and hugely successful wine estate is in the village of Pauillac, situated in the Medoc region in the North West of Bordeaux, France. It is a consistent producer of the world's top wines, with many claiming that the best clarets originate from this very Chateau.
The chateau's frontrunner is the Mouton Rothschild, which was renamed from Brane-Mouton in 1853 by Nathan de Rothschild. Moreover, it is the first Chateau to fully grow and bottle the entire harvest. Chateau Mouton Rothschild is also a member of the fairly exclusive Primum Familiae Vini.
Chateau Mouton Rothschild also produces a second wine labeled Le Petit Mouton Rothschild. A signature style of the brands premier wine is the label; every vintage has a world famous artist or sculptor responsible for the fancy label artwork, and is a tribute to the prestige and success of this top rated chateau.
