Faiveley Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru 2000 750ml

Winemaker's note:
François Faiveley directs this 120 ha Domaine and compares the 2001 vintage to 1991, believing that the quality of the tannins is similar as is the early backward, slightly austere quality of the fruit. The present plan is to bottle in March and at the time of my late November tasting, none of the wines had been racked since the prior March, though few showed much reduction. Domaine Faiveley is located in France, at the heart of Viticultural Burgundy, between Dijon and Beaune in Nuits-Saint-Georges.
This illustrious company has been based in Nuits St Georges since the days of Pierre Faiveley who founded the business in 1825. His son Joseph gave his name to the family business, to be followed by the first François, Georges who was instrumental in founding the Chevaliers du Tastevin, Guy who developed the business in the Côte Chalonnaise, François who has recently retired and now his son Erwan, born in 1979.
Historically based in the Côte de Nuits capital, the Faiveley family has progressively extended its domaine and today owns vineyards in the finest climats in Burgundy - Gevrey-Chambertin, Pommard, Volnay, Puligny-Montrachet, Mercurey and others. The vineyards are very fragmented. The average surface area per appellation is around just 1 hectare. The number of bottles produced for each wine is therefore very limited.
