This is also aromatically quite cool and elegant while weaving notes of a plethora of floral elements with those of red cherry, raspberry and warm earth. The equally large-scaled flavors possess a quite supple yet impressively dense mid-palate that contrasts markedly with the very powerful, dusty and overtly austere finale that displays a hint of dryness. At present this is somewhat strict and note well that my rating offers the benefit of the doubt that the finish will better harmonize in time. As such, this will not make for especially good early drinking.

Domaine Bruno Clair is a Burgundy producer with vineyards across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. The majority of its wines are made from Pinot Noir, but it also makes Chardonnay and Aligoté covering the gamut of regional designations from Bourgogne and villages to premier and grand cru. Its most highly regarded sites are in the grand cru vineyards Bonnes-Mares, Corton-Charlemagne and Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze.
Named for its founder, Bruno Clair was established in 1979 with plots in Marsannay, Fixin, Savigny-les-Beaune and Morey-Saint-Denis. Bruno is the grandson of Bernard Clair, who established highly regarded Burgundy estate Domaine Clair-Daü in 1919. After Bernard died in the late 1970s, there was conflict over how to divide the estate but, in the 1980s, Bruno took on several more family vineyards including ones in esteemed villages such as Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny. The purchase of additional vineyards in the 1990s brought the domaine to 23 hectares (57 acres).
