A ripe but cool nose combines smoky notes of pear, citrus and pretty floral wisps trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is a bit more size and weight as well as a light minerality to the medium-bodied flavors where the minerality adds a sense of lift to the sappy and attractively textured finale that is refreshingly dry. This isn't especially dense, but I like the detail, balance and vibrancy.

Michel Niellon is another champion of the parcel of Chassagne-Montrachet neighboring the commune of Puligny. It is here that he grows elegant Chardonnay. In his blue overalls and moustache he is handsome, honest and understated just like his label. He is a man whose pride and personality are eloquently expressed in the noble bottles that bear his name.
Michel Niellon operates out of two absurdly small cellars in Chassagne, producing sublime wines. With only 6 hectares of vines (that include small holdings in Chevalier and Bâtard-Montrachet), old vines and extremely low yields, Niellon`s supreme winemaking skills give his Chassagne-Montrachet wonderful intensity, great structure, minerality and fabulous length. Supply is severely rationed due to the small size of the domaine and Niellon`s huge following in the United States. But, for those lucky enough to secure some bottles, the rewards are immense. All his wines are well balanced, elegant, and express a true minerality.
