Initially there is noticeable reduction but I found with relatively aggressive swirling that it largely dissipated to reveal notes of both red and dark currant, pungent earth and plenty of that gamy sauvage character. There is exceptionally good richness and volume to the big-bodied and impressively concentrated flavors that coat the palate with dry extract that does a reasonably good job of buffering the firmly tannic but not hard or even unduly austere finish. Even so, this is still at least 5 years away from being approachable and will need 15 plus to become adequately civilized.

Domaine Faiveley is located in France, at the heart of Viticultural Burgundy, between Dijon and Beaune in Nuits-Saint-Georges.
This illustrious company has been based in Nuits St Georges since the days of Pierre Faiveley who founded the business in 1825. His son Joseph gave his name to the family business, to be followed by the first François, Georges who was instrumental in founding the Chevaliers du Tastevin, Guy who developed the business in the Côte Chalonnaise, François who has recently retired and now his son Erwan, born in 1979.
Historically based in the Côte de Nuits capital, the Faiveley family has progressively extended its domaine and today owns vineyards in the finest climats in Burgundy - Gevrey-Chambertin, Pommard, Volnay, Puligny-Montrachet, Mercurey and others. The vineyards are very fragmented. The average surface area per appellation is around just 1 hectare. The number of bottles produced for each wine is therefore very limited.
