Adrien Belland Chambertin Grand Cru 1979 750ml

Showing the most unrealized potential, this is tight, dense and almost broodingly backwards with young, sappy dark fruit notes mixed with smoke, tobacco and an almost chocolaty aroma that carries into the palate. Medium bodied and structured; this has nice concentration, beautiful precision and a long finish.

The 1996 vintage marked a milestone in the history of the Adrian Belland estate: Pere Adrien officially retired and the domaine took the name of his son, Jean-Claude Belland. With respect to the winemaking, beginning with the 1996 vintage, Adrien and Jean-Claude have been working towards a richer, less tannic style over the last few years and have stopped filtering most of the wines. Their holdings range from Santenay to Chambertin.
Belland wines tend to be very fruity on the palate with a long lingering finish, accompanied by a tremendously spicy nose, and the best of the grand cru wines require several years of patience to fully bring out their complexities.
The Bellands look for concentrated, expressive long lasting wines. As Remington Norman writes in his book The Great Domaines of Burgundy: the Belland estate is'a long-established Domaine making wine of exceptional quality, apparently still largely unrecognized.
