The Latest Penfolds Collection

Penfolds is delighted to announce the first release of The Penfolds Collection. This year’s collection, released on the new date of Thursday 16th October includes twelve wines spanning five vintages (2010-2014). The wines from this collection are instantly recognisable amongst wine collectors, with a strong, distinctive individual style and a superb track record of cellaring performance. Leading this release is the 2010 Grange; the 60th consecutive release of Australia’s most celebrated wine from one of the most notable vintages in recent decades.

Formerly released as the Bin Series (March) and the Icon and Luxury Collection (May), the new October release date means the wines of The Penfolds Collection are more readily available to be shipped in the cooler weather and will be available to consumers in the run-up to key festive periods including Christmas, Chinese New Year and Easter.

This collection displays the distinctive and consistently recognisable Penfolds ‘House Style’ – the ultimate expression of Penfolds time-honoured tradition of sourcing the best fruit from the best regions. The wines ably demonstrate Penfolds expertise with single and multi-regional blending, making wines to style and pursuing the highest of quality benchmarks.

As with previous releases, individual stars shine. The eight red wines from the important 2012 vintage offer a suite of wines that demonstrate the individual personalities and regional expressions of the Penfolds red wine portfolio. “Solid, assertive, formidable – watch out 2010!” says Chief Winemaker Peter Gago of the return of the 2012 Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon. “A Formula One Dynamic” says Gago of the 2012 Penfolds RWT Barossa Valley Shiraz. “The complete package,” of the 2012 Penfolds Kalimna Bin 28 Shiraz. The release is further elevated by the textbook 2012 offerings of Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz and Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2010 Grange marks the 60th consecutive vintage of this once experimental wine that delivers a powerful expression of Penfolds multi-vineyard, multi-district, blending philosophy. Outstanding vintage conditions produced fruit with excellent colour, concentrated flavour development and integrated tannins to produce a fitting release for this significant anniversary. “A kaleidoscopic sensorial unfolding!” says Gago of the wine. “Worth the wait – after a one decade deliberation this wine strenuously asserts Grange’s positioning in the new millennium!”

Other highlights of this release include the 30th consecutive release of the sleek and elegant 2012 Magill Estate Shiraz. “Sadly, this monopole’s 5.2 ha of Shiraz vines delivers only a finite offering – if only we could make more!” said Gago. Twenty years after its launch, the Reserve Bin A Adelaide Hills Chardonnay from the 2013 vintage continues to push the boundaries of contemporary winemaking providing an intriguing counterpoint to the multi-regional, yet classically proportioned Yattarna.
