Gorgeous, with a velvety, caressing feel, as warm plum sauce and blackberry confiture notes glide over a thoroughly embedded graphite edge. Rather lush, but light tobacco, bay and iron hints keep this focused even as the fruit takes center stage.

Château Margaux’s second wine appeared in the 19th century and took its current name, Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, in 1908. After an eclipse between the nineteen thirties and the mid-seventies, its production started again with the arrival of André Mentzelopoulos in 1977 and hasn’t stopped making advances in the improvement and quality of the first wine. After a few years, the selection of a third wine came to reinforcethe quality of Pavillon Rouge.
It goes through the same traditional techniques of vinification and ageing in barrels but it’s often bottled three or four months earlier than Château Margaux because its finer structure doesn’t require such a long barrel-ageing period. It has the advantage of evolving more rapidly in bottles and is therefore ready to drink more quickly, always retaining, in the great vintages, an excellent ageing potential.
