The nose has antique oak and soft leather, light floral notes, rich cocoa and black cherry and ginger. The palate has a warming combination of dried fruits and wood spices moving into dates and dark chocolate, orange oil and hints of sultanas. The finish is rich and complex, with a long lasting aftertaste of raisins, dates and creme brulee.
The red thread begins with Alexander Reid, the farmer and teacher who founded The Macallan in 1824. Taking up residence at Easter Elchies in the late 1700s, he transformed the estate from a small farming community into a world-renowned distiller. His surname Reid is a name of Scottish origin, meaning ‘the red one’ and was originally associated with red hair.

Founded in 1824 in the heart of Speyside, The Macallan was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to be legally licensed. Since then it has built a reputation as one of the world's leading single malt whiskies.
