Here the equally cool nose is compositionally similar to that of the Bourgogne but with notably better complexity. There is also much better mid-palate density and volume to the attractively textured medium-bodied flavors that possess a caressing mouth feel before culminating in a sneaky long finale. This is worth checking out provided you can allow it a few years of cellar time to develop a bit more overall depth.

Michel Niellon is another champion of the parcel of Chassagne-Montrachet neighboring the commune of Puligny. It is here that he grows elegant Chardonnay. In his blue overalls and moustache he is handsome, honest and understated â?? just like his label. He is a man whose pride and personality are eloquently expressed in the noble bottles that bear his name.
Michel Niellon operates out of two absurdly small cellars in Chassagne, producing sublime wines. With only 6 hectares of vines (that include small holdings in Chevalier and Bâtard-Montrachet), old vines and extremely low yields, Niellon`s supreme winemaking skills give his Chassagne-Montrachet wonderful intensity, great structure, minerality and fabulous length. Supply is severely rationed due to the small size of the domaine and Niellon`s huge following in the United States. But, for those lucky enough to secure some bottles, the rewards are immense. All his wines are well balanced, elegant, and express a true minerality.
