A restrained and brooding but beautifully complex nose offers up cool red and dark berry fruit aromas that are liberally laced with pungent earth, spice and sauvage hints. On the palate there is more size, weight and concentration than in any of the prior Corton grands crus as well as notably better depth and persistence of the balanced and built to age finish. To be clear, even with the superior size and weight this is still not an especially big wine by the typical standards of the appellation but this acquits itself credibly all the same.

The Latour family themselves have been viticulteurs since the 17th century, slowly building up a unique Domaine of 50 hectares (125 acres). This Domaine has the largest Grand Cru property in the Cote d'Or with a total of 28,63 hectares (71,58 acres) . The vineyards extend from Chambertin in the north to Chevalier-Montrachet in the south and are solely planted with the two noble grape varieties ; Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
